Hi Steve
A recent article by J Lindhe states that there is consideable horziontal bone loss after tooth extraction even when immediate implants are placed.ie immediate implants do not prevent the loss of buccal bone. Therefore, in a highly aesthetic case I will pack the socket with BIoss and cover it with a resorbable collagen membrane eg Biogide. In addition, in the the case of an immediately placed implant, I will place Bioss between the fixture and the buccal wall - not to enhance osseointegration but rather to prevent the collapse of teh buccal plate
