International students and NZ Post-Graduate programs
Hello!
I recently graduated from dental school in the U.S., and I am interested in practicing in New Zealand. I was looking into post-graduate programs at Otago, but I'm not sure what each of the programs offer. If someone is familiar with the post-grad programs, or if you are an international dentist that has moved to NZ, I would love to hear about your experience. Thank you so much!
I am an Australian dentist who undertook post-graduate training in Oral Surgery at Otago University in 1997. It was a terrific place to do further training; the Uni is dispersed within the town of Dunedin, so it had a very welcoming feel about it, although it did get a little on the cold side in Winter!
The course I did gave an intensive training in dento-alveolar surgery and oral medicine - I enjoyed it. I can't comment on the other courses, however, I noted that most students seemed to be happy with their training.
I did the Post Graduate Diploma which was one year of very intensive training. It consisted of lectures, seminars, LA lists, IV lists and GA lists as well as on call duties at Dunedin Hospital for any facial trauma. In fact, in the first week I was there, I found myself in the Intensive Care Unit at Dunedin Hospital reattaching a partially severed ear.
m situated near macquarie... am a dentist from india.. do u know if anyone is interested in hiring overseas dentists... ??? i m in need to learn a few practicals from an aus. dentust.. i would be grateful if anyone can help..
I am thrilled by the presence of an oral surgeon. I definitely have some memorable experience that I like to share. I had to remove wires (as a result of past jaw fractures) from a detainee(inmate) today. He missed his recall date with his private practice oral surgeon, because of his recent arrest. The dental clinic ran out of local anesthetic..Let's say it was a rather painful experience for the patient.
