Unhappy Dentist Dancing with a Drill

From the Sun Herald 4 Nov 07:

A dentist was dancing to the song 'Car Wash' when he punctured a patient's sinus cavity with his drill and it lodged near her eye socket.

Brandy Fanning, 31, of Syracuse, New York State, said she had to undergo emergency surgery and spent three days in hospital because of the mishap. Fanning said she still suffers facial swelling, nerve damage and chronic infections from the bacteria that seeped into her sinus cavity. She is seeking $US600,000 ($650,000) for her medical expenses, pain and suffering in the lawsuit filed against George Trusty last month.

Mr Trusty, 57, a dentist at Syracuse Community Health Centre, declined to comment. Fanning said she went to the emergency dental clinic in October 2004 after pain in her left molar.

Of course, you never hear the full story from both sides. Regardless, this is an unfortunate outcome.
